Man Allegedly Beats Grandfather to Death After Disagreement

A DRUNK Lumezi man has forcefully removed his grandfather from the land of the living, after subjecting him to a vicious beating, simply for making a joke.

75 year old Texson Zulu of Chitabeni farms,Chief Chikhomeni in Lumezi succumbed to the injuries six days after he was assaulted by his grandson Warston Zulu.

According to police, the incident occured at 16:00 hours on April 17, when Zulu cracked a joke at his Grandson Warston whilst at a Borehole.

The joke seems to have cut deep as Warston resolve to use his fists and anything to inflict pain on his grandfather.

Warston did not end at beating the elderly man but also assaulted his grandfather’s wife who attempted to play peacemaker by intervening in the chaos.

Zulu sustained general body pains and fractured ribs from the ordeal and was rushed to Lumezi District hospital where he was admitted on same day.

Eastern Province commanding officer, Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident.

He said the elderly man was on Wednesday, April 22, the victim was transferred to Chipata Central Hospital for further medication.

However, at 19:00 hours, Zulu could not respond to treatment and died at around 22:00 hours.

“A Brought in dead (B.I.D) Certificate has since been issued to deposit the body of the deceased into Chipata Central Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination results,” said Mweemba

Warston has since been arrested after a report of assault was filed by the Zulu family.
