Expectant mothers in Misaka, Kamfinsa Constituency, have been forced to deliver at home due to the absence of a maternity annex at Misaka Health Post, a situation that continues to raise serious concerns about maternal and child health in the community.
The health post, which serves a population of over 3,000 residents, has long struggled with limited maternal health infrastructure, leaving pregnant women with no safe facility for delivery.
Kamfinsa Member of Parliament Christopher Kang’ombe acknowledged the challenge and confirmed that plans to expand the health post are underway. He explained that the construction of a maternity annex will be undertaken through the 2026 Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Kang’ombe said the upcoming expansion is expected to significantly improve access to safe delivery services, reduce maternal risks, and strengthen overall healthcare provision for women and children in the area.
Residents have welcomed the development with hope that the long-awaited facility will ease the burden on expectant mothers and enhance health outcomes in Misaka.
