Patriotic Front (PF) presidential aspirant Dr Chitalu Chilufya says he will prioritise economic recovery and strengthen public institutions if elected, citing his record as former health minister.
Dr Chilufya, the Member of Parliament for Mansa Central, said his candidature is anchored on national healing and inclusive development, as he formally submitted his presidential nomination fee to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
In a statement issued on Saturday, he described the submission as a confirmation of his intention to contest the 2026 general elections under the PF.
“My candidature is anchored in a vision of national healing, economic restoration, and inclusive development,” he said. “Drawing from my experience as a medical doctor and former Minister of Health, I reaffirm my commitment to diagnosing and resolving the systemic challenges confronting our nation.”
Dr Chilufya said his decision to contest the presidency reflects his readiness to serve and a commitment to deliver tangible change for Zambians.
“I am not merely filing documents; I am making a solemn pledge to every Zambian that help is on the way,” he said. “Just as we transformed the health sector and managed complex health crises while expanding access to primary healthcare, I stand prepared to apply the same discipline, precision and compassion to restoring the national economy.”
He reiterated his belief that leadership should be judged on proven ability and integrity rather than rhetoric.
Dr Chilufya also called on the ECZ to uphold transparency and fairness in managing the electoral process, urging the commission to ensure that the outcome reflects the will of the people.
He further appealed for unity, invoking the “One Zambia, One Nation” philosophy championed by Kenneth Kaunda.
“As the Patriotic Front advances towards reconciliation, this early submission signals a structured, focused and unifying campaign for both the party and the nation ahead of the 2026 polls,” he said.
